Flattery or Flagrant Foul?

So last night Christina Aguilera premiered her brand new video "Not Myself Tonight" (note the irony) and although I love the video on some level I'm a little disappointed. The thing is I LOVE "Xtina" because the girl has pipes but for her to resort to unnecessary "over-sexualized" music videos makes me sad. I'm no prude by any means but this is a little over the top for a woman with a husband and child. A bedazzled ball gag?..really?! And the fact that this video looks SOOO much like other top artists out there and lacks originality is also disappointing. I know artists are sometimes "inspired" by other artists but this relies a little too much on those inspirations. But I will rest my case and let others take the floor...

Here's what Entertainment Weekly had to say:

In the video, Aguilera mostly prances around in various dominatrix-esque and lingerie-inspired outfits, sans any sort of storyline. You’ll see plenty of slick materials, exposed bras, and a whip. And, yes, there a few moments that are uncannily Gaga-ish. Two stick out in my mind: namely, those shots of Christina in white with a harem of dancers, and the moments where you see the diva, wet, in red lingerie.
Truly, though, there’s another pop-diva influence clearly going on in this video, and her name starts with M. Could it be…Madonna? Yes, of course. Aguilera’s dominatrix outfit seems to be a clear nod to Madge in "Human Nature." And those times where we see Aguilera amid mist at the top of those stairs, dressed as a German schoolmaster are reminiscent of Madonna’s "Express Yourself" no? Are you seeing other Material Girl-inspired moments in the video?

The retort to this whole line of criticism, however, includes two arguments: 1) When it comes to Madonna, nearly every pop star has taken pieces of her performances/styling/etc. So there’s that. And then 2) With the Gaga argument, can we really fault Christina for taking from Gaga, when Gaga herself has so ripped from a variety of other artists? Then again, Gaga seems to rip from her musical influences and then blast it in a totally different direction. Right?

The worst part about Xtina’s video, beyond the rather unabashed unoriginality of it, is the sad stink of I’ve-been-gone-forever-had-a-baby-and-now-want-to-be-relevant-again desperation. Cue: the girl-on-girl makeout sessions! Text messaging! Fire balls! When watching, there’s wasn’t a moment where I didn’t feel like Aguilera was clawing for relevancy, in a crazy, far beyond, post-Aguilera world. True story: Aguilera has been gone for a long time. There’s a desperate need, sort of like when she blipped back for two seconds with “Keeps Gettin’ Better” a couple years ago, for her to resuscitate her look and build it in the image of what’s relevant now. But maybe she should have gone in a totally different direction to avoid comparisons? Given us something totally different? The thing about Aguilera is that she’s used to zig when everyone else was zagging. And now, it seems like she decided to zag along with everyone else.

Such a Small Price.....

A week at Vogue was auctioned off for $42,500....

Two days ago the auction for a week at Vogue was up to $13,000. Well, the auction is over, and it closed at $42,500. That's more than three times the already shocking Tuesday price to hang out in an office, meet Anna Wintour, and go to a fifteen-minute fashion show.

What I wouldn't give to be able to sit in the midst of Miz Wintour and the amazing being that is André Leon Talley! I have an unhealthy obsession with these two and I would love to walk through those office doors and see that beautiful black Baskerville Old Face font on the wall....*sigh*

Hmmm maybe next time I blog it'll be from my new desk at Vogue once Anna and André sees this!

New Beginnings....

Okay lets try this again shall we?

School is winding down and my life will soon be in balance once again so I'll have more time to blog and keep all my readers in the know.

To be honest I'm looking forward to Sex & the City 2 more than my own graduation! I can't wait for the drama and most of all the fashion! Carrie and the other 3 (just kidding! But lets be honest she's the most important no offense) speak my mind. I don't have to worry about getting my hopes up and being let down because SATC never disappoints....ever! Be sure to get my thoughts on it after.

So, yes... I'm back. There will be a lot more of me don't worry. I'm sure you will be kept up-to-date on my entire event-filled summer. Until then...

I'm Back!!!

So I apologize to all of you who've been reading for not blogging in so long. But life gets hectic sometimes and I had to reorganize the fray. But I'm back and I'll be updating at least once a week just so you can get your fix ;-)

So I must say that I have a second favorite love after H&M and that would have to be the retailer Zara. Zara makes it looks easy to look like a million bucks without the hefty price tag. Take for instance this past weekend, I bought an amazing suit and a great leather satchel that I've had my eye on for a while all for under $200!!! That's insane! The suit is perfectly slim cut and fits to a T! There's minimal alterations needed.

The suit is going to be perfect for a fabulous wedding I'm attending in New York in 2 weeks. I have a lot of people to impress and nothing to do it better in than a well cut garment.

Anyways that's enough for now, I'll be sure to update you soon!

Ciao!

I Do Not Support This LV

Don't get me wrong I looovvveeee Louis Vuitton and I love what Marc Jacobs has done with the collection thus far....BUT...I do not agree with him letting the egomaniac Kanye West design a line of shoes, sneakers no less!

What gives Kanye the credentials to design a line in conjunction with one of the most recognizable and respected fashion houses? To add insult the sneakers range from $800-$1000 a pair!

Would you pay that kind of $$$ for these?

I wouldn't but it seems that some people don't feel the same, they have already sold out and they haven't even hit shelves yet.

Louis next time you're in need of new creative input I am always available.

Anna Wintour's tale: Vogue editor to appear in 'real-life Devil Wears Prada'

The September Issue focuses on Anna Wintour - inspiration for The Devil Wears Prada and 'most important woman in fashion'

For all of you who thought that The Devil Wears Prada was a documentary brushed with a thin patina of drama to disguise the fact that it was an exposé of American Vogue editor Anna Wintour, along comes the real thing. Wintour, the legendarily reticent editor who almost never talks to the press, has cast aside her innate media shyness – as she would an Yves St Laurent cerulean military jacket from 2003 – and agreed to appear in a documentary about herself. Called The September Issue, the documentary hits UK cinemas on 11 September and this trailer makes it all look rather jolly fun. Except for the moment where the Vogue underling breaks the news to La Wintour that the photographer didn't shoot the coliseum dress. Cue reaction from Wintour. If looks could kill ...
